Hill of Rowan

The Hill of Rowan near Tarfside is a rewarding hill walk offering expansive views across Glenesk and the surrounding Angus hills. Ancient St Drostan’s Church

This atmospheric walk leads from the existing St Drostan’s Church, past the ancient Cross Stone, to the remote site of the 2nd St Drostan’s Church. Following a rough hill path across open moorland, the route offers wide views over Glenesk and a strong sense of history. The church site is marked by low stone remains and painted corner stones, quietly recalling an 18th-century place of worship built by the local congregation.

Queen’s Well

The Queen’s Well commemorates Queen Victoria’s visits to Glen Esk during her Highland tours in the 19th century. Set high on the hillside, this simple stone structure marks the spot where she took refreshment while enjoying the landscape. Reached by a rewarding hill walk, it offers sweeping views across the glen and is a lovely destination for those interested in history and scenic walking.

Blue Door Walk

The Blue Door Walk is a gentle and picturesque circular route starting in Edzell village. Passing woodland, riverside paths, and open countryside, it takes its name from a distinctive blue door on the route. Ideal for an easy stroll or family walk, it offers lovely views, seasonal wildlife, and a peaceful way to explore the area on foot before returning to Edzell’s cafés and shops.
